My record obsession was growing rapidly so I needed a solution to store my collection and I wanted some room for growth. I wanted a setup where you could flip through the records like at the record shops. It's often difficult to read the artists and album names when you can only see the spines of the album covers. I decided to make a cabinet with 9 drawers which holds approximately 540 records (60 records per drawer).
Wood type: Solid birch wood, Birch plywood and birch edge banding.
Finish: Grey Cabot stain called 'sweet earth', Polyurethane finish and white paint (drawers).
Hardware: Legs from Ikea. Drawer rails.

I used a good quality 4' x 8' sheet of birch plywood to build the sides and base. I decided to make the cabinet 16" deep so I ripped the sheet along the width 5 times. I then sanded the and applied the stain.
I bought the stain awhile back from Lowes. I find this stain a little difficult to apply - it's a clear stain, any overlap is quitter noticeable. I did apply a pre-stain wood conditioner prior to applying the grey sweet earth cabot stain. More details on wood conditioners can be found here.
I then drilled some pocket hole so I can attach the side pieces to the base ( which I didn't use - you'll see why later) and at the top. The drawers will hide the pocket holes at the bottom. I eventually put a decorative piece of birch at the top of the cabinet for strength and style that does hide the pocket holes from most angles.
As you'll see in the photo below, I used 3 separate pieces for the base and not one piece. Therefore I didn't need pocket holes for the bottom of the side pieces (illustrated above). I drilled pocket holes on the bottom of the base pieces to attach sides.
I installed the drawers and ensured everything fit.
Now I just had to do some sanding touch-ups and apply the finish! Here's a good shot of the stain under natural sunlight.
Here's a close-up of a drawer and the stopper.
